Terms of Service
Last updated: 20 August 2026
Agreement
By using SongTrace, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
What SongTrace is
SongTrace is a free web tool that lets you search for a track and see which musicians played on the recording, by combining publicly available data from MusicBrainz, Discogs, and Wikipedia. SongTrace is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to MusicBrainz, MetaBrainz Foundation, Discogs, Zink Media, the Wikimedia Foundation, Spotify, or any artist, label, or publisher whose data may appear in search results.
Accuracy of credits
Musician credits shown on SongTrace come from third-party, largely crowdsourced or user-editable databases. They can be incomplete, outdated, or occasionally wrong — SongTrace has no way to independently verify them. Treat SongTrace as a starting point for discovery, not as an authoritative or official source. If you spot an error, the right place to correct it is at the source (e.g. MusicBrainz or Wikipedia directly), which will improve results here too.
Acceptable use
SongTrace is provided for personal, non-commercial use. Please don't:
- Scrape, bulk-query, or programmatically automate requests against SongTrace at a volume beyond normal interactive use
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or interfere with the service
- Use SongTrace in a way that violates the terms of the underlying data sources (MusicBrainz, Discogs, Wikipedia)
- Misrepresent SongTrace's data as your own or as officially verified credits
Intellectual property
The SongTrace name, design, and code are owned by its operator. The underlying music data is not ours — it's sourced from and licensed by the respective third parties: MusicBrainz's core data is released under CC0, Wikipedia content is licensed under CC BY-SA (attributed via the source links shown with each result), and Discogs data is used under the Discogs API Terms of Use.
No warranty
SongTrace is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the credits it shows are accurate or complete.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SongTrace and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including reliance on inaccurate or incomplete credit information. SongTrace is a free service; our total liability to you is limited accordingly.
Dependence on third-party services
SongTrace relies on MusicBrainz, Discogs, and Wikipedia to function. We don't control their availability, rate limits, or data quality, and we're not responsible if any of them change, restrict access, or go offline in a way that affects SongTrace.
Changes to the service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue SongTrace, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice and without any obligation to maintain or support it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect once posted here, reflected in the "Last updated" date above; continuing to use SongTrace after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Italy and, where applicable, European Union regulations, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
